Mapping current spending
Before any plan is built, learners document three months of actual outgoings across fixed, variable, and discretionary categories. This creates a factual baseline rather than an assumed one.
Rimovlan began in 2020 with a straightforward observation: most people struggle with personal finances not because they lack discipline, but because they were never taught a reliable method. Expense budgeting is a skill — one that can be structured, practised, and genuinely learned. The platform exists to close that gap for learners across Ireland and beyond, using curriculum built around real spending patterns rather than abstract financial theory.
Each stage builds directly on the previous one. The time estimates below reflect median completion time for learners working at a comfortable pace — not a minimum or a target.
Before any plan is built, learners document three months of actual outgoings across fixed, variable, and discretionary categories. This creates a factual baseline rather than an assumed one.
Learners work through three distinct categorisation methods — envelope, percentage-based, and zero-based — and assess which fits their income pattern. No single method is recommended as universal.
Using the chosen framework, learners construct a month-by-month budget that accounts for irregular expenses — annual insurance, seasonal costs, irregular income. Templates are provided but adapted, not filled in mechanically. The goal is a budget that holds up in February as well as it does in July.
A budget that is never reviewed is just a spreadsheet. This stage covers weekly check-in habits, variance analysis, and when to revise a category versus when to treat an overspend as a one-off.
Learners run scenario exercises — unexpected car repair, reduced income month, a large planned purchase — and practice adjusting their budget without abandoning it entirely. Resilience is built through practice, not theory.
The principles below are not aspirational statements — they describe concrete decisions made in how each module is structured and assessed. Select any to read the reasoning behind it.
